Winners of the
2nd Annual International Photo Contest, 2022
“Seabirds of Macaronesia"
For the second photo contest, we received a total of 107 entries from 26 participants over 18 years old and 4 participants in the Young Photographer category. This year, the geographical area and the species list were extended to include the entire Macaronesian area, so it was with great pleasure that we received pictures taken in the Azores, Madeira, the Canary Islands, Cape Verde, and, of course, the Atlantic Ocean.
We would like to thank all participants for their interest in Macaronesian seabirds and for submitting pictures. It was a true pleasure, but at the same time a difficult task, to judge the different species and the diverse styles and levels of personal involvement of the photographers.
The winning images are:
1. First place (€250) and members’ choice: Cory's in flight – Justin Hart
2. Second place (€125): Gold in the sea – Gui da Costa
3. Third place (€75): Cory's inbound – Justin Hart
4. Young Photographer Award (€100): Warming up – Salvador Vieira
The following photographs received an Honorable Mention:
-
Frenzy of shearwaters feeding on stickfish – Justin Hart
-
Amphibious birds – Anxo Cao
-
Portrait of a Cory's Shearwater – Matias Roque
-
Angel – Salvador Vieira
All winners also received 1 year of free membership of Asas do Mar (IOMA).
Thanks again to all participants – please continue to photograph seabirds!
