Ameaças: Causas

Seabirds are one of the most threatened groups of birds and their status

has deteriorated more rapidly than other comparable groups of birds in recent decades.

Of the approximately 346 species of seabirds, almost a third (101) are threatened worldwide,

10% are near threatened and almost half are known or suspected to be experiencing population decline.

These are the main threats:

  • Habitat degradation

  • Seabird bycatch in fisheries

  • Introduced species (predators, competitors, etc.)

  • Light pollution

  • Marine pollution

  • Overfishing

  • Coastal wind farms

  • Effects of climate change
